Pennsylvania Men’s Halfway Houses and Sober Living Environments

For men seeking transitional living facilities in order to complete their recovery program and return to a more traditional lifestyle, Pennsylvania residents have an excellent choice in halfway houses and sober living environments. Granite House can help.

What is a Men’s halfway house?

Men’s halfway houses are sober living environments dedicated to helping those who have completed inpatient treatment for drug and alcohol addiction, but still need structure and additional support to help reinforce the principles recently acquired. These facilities are highly structured, emphasizing personal responsibility and accountability in order to accomplish their stated goal. Almost all center their approach on the 12 Step program of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Benefits of being in a sober living environment

A sober living environment provides excellent support for those in transition from an inpatient treatment program. It is especially beneficial for young men who are still trying to cope with the demands of adulthood and for those who have had a long battle with addiction. The structured environment and no-nonsense expectations help residents remain on the path to sobriety.

Most sober living homes require attendance at individual and group counseling sessions, and participation in 12 Step programs. Within the framework of the home itself, the sense of self-discipline and personal responsibility is reinforced through requirements to properly maintain the facility, seek and remain gainfully employed, or enroll in classes at a nearby educational institution.

Things to accept when living in a halfway house

When living in a halfway house, it is important for residents to understand and accept that the responsibility for their recovery rests with them. While support services are offered, and residents are required to participate, failure to do so will result in expulsion.  While the facilities may be nicely appointed, the rules are inflexible and the demands and expectations are high. It is not a location for those who have not taken their rehabilitation seriously, or are seeking a magic bullet. A transitional living facility is concerned with the well-being of all its residents, and will not tolerate those who are self-serving.
